Year 9 Preferences

At Chobham Academy we offer a three year Key Stage Three programme and a two year Key Stage Four (GCSE) programme. The three year Key Stage Three provides a broad foundation of knowledge which is built upon and specialised when students make their preferences. For many of our students this is the first time in their academic career they have made a choice about their education. It is important students alongside their parents make an informed choice. For that reason, the process is spread out over the spring term of Year 9 to allow a considered choice to be made.

The timetable below provides the timeline of the process; the documents currently displayed are for the previous academic year, this page will be updated in January 2021 with the documents for the current Year 9.

Key dates during the Spring Term for the Option Choices process

Thursday 21st January

Year 9 GCSE Preference Launch Event

The GCSE Options process will be launched to parents and carers. Options Booklet and Form will be issued (will be added to this page late January 2021).

Monday 25th January and Tuesday 26th January

Year 9 Options Assembly

Year 9 students will receive two special assemblies in which they will receive information on the GCSE subjects available at Chobham from subject leaders. (Presentation will be available at the bottom of this page).

Monday 1st February and Monday 8th February

‘Try Before You Buy’ Taster Lessons

A series of taster lessons, where students will be able to choose four subjects over the two events.  The event will take place from 3pm-4.10pm.

Careers Guidance linked to Subject choices

Students will work through a programme of study sessions.  They will receive advice and guidance from their tutors, careers advisor and also Y12 prefects.

Wednesday 3rd  March

An opportunity for you and your child to further explore different subject areas and ask questions about the process as a whole, whilst also receiving feedback on your child’s progress in Year 9.

Each child and parent will also meet with a member of the Academy Leadership Team to ensure that the choices they make are both informed and appropriate.

Friday 5th March

Deadline for preference forms returned to form tutors.

Early July

Your child will be informed of their GCSE subjects.

Any questions about the preference process should be directed in the first instance to Mr Eyre, Vice Prinicipal, at G.Eyre@chobhamacademy.org.uk.
